Cayman Islands in top tier of captives

The Cayman Islands continues to be a leading jurisdiction in the captive insurance industry with sources indicating that Cayman had 780 captives at the end of 2009 closely behind Bermuda with 855 captives and that Vermont had 560, Guernsey 355, the Isle of Man 145 and Jersey 3.  Further figures released by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority report that at the end of the first quarter in March 2010 there were 16 less captives than at the end of 2009 however assets under management had increased to US$44.9 billion from US$44.7 billion. The captive insurance industry in the Cayman Islands has continued to remain relatively robust under difficult global economic conditions.
